[While she knows her life has likely not been anywhere near as hard as his, she understands the anger and self-loathing well enough. In fact, those feelings are the original source of her ability to transform. Now that she's practiced with Diana, she can do it at will. So she's definitely not going to press someone she's working with and trying to get along with in ways that will undoubtably be more hurtful than they are helpful.]
I like the fighting rings. It's a good way to make some quick money...and the way Wyver people like fights reminds me of my home planet.
I like 'em too. Mostly I gamble- I tried fightin' once or twice, but it turns out I have unfair advantages.
[He's small and fast and people have a hard time hitting him. He tires his opponents out and then drops them. It's less of a fight than a Benny Hill episode. Not great for business. Boo.]
But with that logic, you could be from half the planets in my universe, but you ain't Kree and you definitely ain't a Skrull. There's a whole lot of places where they enjoy beatin' each other up and then beatin' other people up.
[Because if they're going to get into the issue of unfair advantages, she's from a race who's known in her universe for their battle ability. But she can see how it would be difficult to hit him, even just observing how he's moved on this job.]
There's a lot of words like "cheating" thrown around. [He rolls his eyes.] But let's call it like it is- nobody likes seein' the little guy make an embarrassment outta the big guy. Bad for ticket sales.
[He scratches the fur on under his chin, as he considers those things.] That one I've never heard of. Must be different universes.
[Her experience has been the opposite. Plenty of people like seeing a small young woman clobber a big guy, especially if the guy in question is rude or extra violent. But then, she's been mistaken for human on more than one occasion, and Rocket is decidedly tinier. And cuter, until he starts talking.]
What's your fighting style like? Do you use your opponent's force against them?
[She's envisioning a lot of dodging and throwing.]
I prefer to shoot if I have my way about it. Or set traps- I love a good trap. [He chuckles indulgently.] Buut if I gotta, the idea is to keep 'em from gettin' a good hit on me and then punchin' 'em in the throat or head. I'm fast and I'm a good climber- they don't stand a chance.
[No one expects to get punched in the throat by something like him. What's even worse is they don't expect it to hurt that much.]
Traps and guns normally aren't allowed in tournaments, so I can see where people might start talking about cheating when you're fighting in the ring. But versatility is good for jobs and missions.
