Uhm. Jean said you were able to make his gear run for days at a time.
[How Armin doesn't quite understand, but Jean would've had no reason to lie about that, and in any case, he isn't even sure where they'd be able to get gas from in this place.]
If I can do it once, I can do it again, no problem. Not that you guys ever have a chance to use 'em, but, eh. It's always nice to be prepared. You never know when the Jabberwocky's gonna come back.
The Core. [Armin mumbles the worlds, repeating them to himself, trying to dig up what Jean had told him about that place.] That is... that is the place that eats memories, right? At least, that is how Jean described it.
Yeah, if you stick your head into it. And unless it's what makes Wonderland go around, it don't bother us so long as we don't go poking at it... Mostly.
I haven't poked at it in the four years I've been here and I've still got all my memories, anyway.
[Good lord, and Armin thought Jean had been trapped here for a long time. Four years is just... it is hard for him to fathom. Of course, it doesn't help that being only sixteen, four years is literally a fourth of his life.]
I hope you won't take this the wrong way but I'm glad to have found someone who isn't content with being here even after such a long time. Perhaps it is just the people I've been speaking to, but it feels like the longer they are in this place, the less concerned they are with getting out.
[Armin doesn't trust this place so it is suspicious to him. He wouldn't put it beyond this crazy world to suppress their desire to leave or something.]
Rather, I wonder if this place might be doing something to the people here. If it can affect and take memories, it might also be able to suppress someone's desire to return home. Maybe that is why so many people grow comfortable here.
[Which. Ugh. He can't stand the thought of anything messing with his thoughts or feelings.]
Of course, I might be completely wrong. It's just a thought I had.
[He makes a frustrated noise.] No, I'd buy that, but since some of us are still resisting, you'd have to be pretty damn idiotic to fall into that trap. Maybe it starts with the ones that don't have anything better back where they came from.

Would that be possible for mine too?

[He trips a little over the word, clearly an unfamiliar one to him. Jean didn't tell him anything about no jabberwockies.]

I'm sorry. That must have been rough.

[Though 100% accurate.] I prefer to use the term "irritating."
